Average cost for monthly home cleaning service?

Jennifer - posted on 01/31/2011 (14 moms have responded)

I'm thinking about trying this out once a month to save myself the time. Have
any of you tried it and if so, how much did you pay? Also, any issues with
trustworthiness?

We have a student at a local university come and clean one evening a week. I post the position on the job
boards at the local universities. We pay $10/hr. We are flexible about schedule, as long as it is consistent
one evening a week or morning on the weekend. Our own schedule changes with each sport's season as
well, but for the most part we have had good luck, only having to find someone new when one graduates
and moves on. I am very clear and upfront about what I want done and how I want it done. I even have a
check off list. And I am clear that I want someone during school breaks as well. We average $30-50 a week.
So worth brown-bagging my lunch at work.

WOW...I wish I had those rates available here (Minnesota). I pay $150 every other week. To me it is worth it.
They do the deep cleaning...then I can keep up on the deep dives (for example, cleaning out the pantry or
kids drawers).

we use an eco-friendly service - $140 for 3000 sq ft, every other week. use a bonded/insured company, not
just someone off of craigstlist :)

Yes I've been considering the same. I just need help with the communal areas of my house. Lead a rather
busy life and could do with the help. Why are you opting for monthly?

Would it be fair to say the initial visit $100 and then every two weeks $80 for two women to clean. That's $40
each... ???

About $60 a week for a 1900 sq ft house. My gal comes every other Friday. It is SO worth the money!

Whoa, thanks Marcy! That was a really detailed and helpful post. I only want once a month for now because
I really only want the big cleaning jobs done with help - bathtub, toilet, floors, kitchen surfaces, dusting. I
don't expect the service to do laundry or even pick up laundry so hopefully once a month will work out. I
have a dog too so that's why I'll definitely need to be there every time, at least in the beginning.

I have a 1500 sf house...3 bedroms, 2 baths. We have a cleaning lady every other Saturday and she
charges me $75 each time she comes. The thing about once a month is that your house gets dirty. its next
to impossible for someone to come in and do a really good job when there is just so much to do. If I had her
once a month she would charge me about $125 and stay for 5 hours or so. Right now she gets to my house
about 8 and is there for 3/4 hours. She is amazing and does everything...changes sheets, folds laundry,
sweeps out patio and cleans out the fridge. I would rather eat pasta a few nights a week then lose her....

She has a key to my house and when she comes over sometimes I run to the store and leave my son with
her. We have had services in the past and my experience with them is decent at best. Although they may be
licensed, insured, bonded etc they also have rules about what they can and can't do and extra costs. If I
need my cleanig lady to do something extra I just ask. She has cleaned my windows (outside) ...I just give
her an extra $20 and I take care of her at the holidays....I would say try and find someone on Craigs
List....call for referrals and try and be home the first few times they are there. Honestly, the only thing I care
about in my house is my hubby, my kiddo and my dog......the rest is replaceable.

Wow, sounds like ours is a real bargain! We pay $15/hour. But we found her through personal contacts, not
through an agency.

When I've had little extra money, I had a cleaner, a really nice lady, who did her work for ~5 hours, and I paid
her $100 for her time. It was not too detailed (I would need to have her maybe every other week for that), but
my house looked nice after her cleaning. I have 2-bedroom (incl. kids' bedroom), 1 washroom, all together
about 1100 sq feet.
I wich I had money to keep dong it, but for now I have to start doing it totally by myself.

Wow were are you ladies finding your cleaners? I have had several, all $40 per hour and they are useless!
Refuse to clean under things, refuse to put things back, argue with me that they cant clean something
properly because it will take too long (to which I said, I know how long it takes thats why I'm paying you to do
it!). Maybe I just have bad luck with cleaners! I live in Perth Australia BTW, in case anyone has a good
cleaner in my city. My friend loves her cleaners (husband and wife team) but pays $150 per week for 3-4
hours work - I just cant justify that.

$20 an hour seems to be the going rate around here....so if you know about how long it takes to do the
cleaning you want to have done, then you can calculate it. every other week for detailed cleaning works for a
lot of people....

That seems like a lot to me! I was quoted $80 for a 1x/month service. I only have a 1 bedroom apt that's
about 1,000 sq. ft. Does that seem like a normal price?

we pay $85.00 every two weeks. totally worth it!
Trying a house cleaning service.
